Teatro Alighieri, the main theater of the city of Ravenna, just a short walk from the Galletti Abbiosi hotel.
The theater dates back to the first half of the 1800s and was built at the request of the city’s municipal administration. The commission was given to the two Venetian architects Tomaso and Gian Battista Meduna, who had previously restored the Teatro della Fenice in Venice. As a result, the architectural style of the Teatro Alighieri is inspired by Venetian design.
The theater was inaugurated in 1852, and it was named after the Supreme Poet Dante Alighieri, a figure to whom the city of Ravenna has always been, and still is, closely connected.
Teatro Alighieri is the city’s main theater and is the home of the Ravenna Festival.
Today, Teatro Alighieri is the main theater of the city of Ravenna, just a short walk from Palazzo Galletti Abbiosi, and serves as the venue for the major events of the Ravenna Festival, a festival directed and organized by the Ravenna Manifestazioni Foundation. The program curated by the Foundation features performances of every kind of theatrical art:
- drama performances: comedies, cabaret, variety shows;
- Opera and musicals;
- Orchestra concerts, jazz, and performances by Italian and international artists from contemporary genres.
