Palazzo Guiccioli

Byron and Risorgimento Museum

Open the Palace Museum in the historic center

Thanks to a titanic restoration work, the rooms where Byron loved and wrote (here he composed Don Juan, among others) come back to life, while the interactive and intermediate experience signed by Studio Azzurro transports visitors to nineteenth-century Ravenna, a mirror of poetic and patriotic impulses that ran through all of Europe. At the initiative of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna, the imposing historic home of Palazzo Guiccioli becomes a museum complex in which, on two floors and across 2,220 square meters and twenty-four rooms, the threads of Byron’s long stay in the city are rewoven.

One of the most imposing and elegant aristocratic residences in the city, the palace was erected in the late 17th century for the Osio family’s rise to patrician status; at the dawn of the 19th century it was acquired by Alessandro Guiccioli. Byron stayed there between 1819 and 1821-he had followed his beloved Teresa Gamba Guiccioli to Ravenna.

Inside Palazzo Guiccioli are the Byron Museum and the Museum of the Risorgimento.
