Around the halls - Shared space
Hotel lobbies become exhibition spaces open to dialogue between art, city and hospitality, offering citizens and visitors the opportunity to discover contemporary mosaics in unusual and welcoming contexts.
Over the years, the Biennale di Mosaico Contemporaneo has developed in an ambitious yet balanced way, becoming increasingly integrated with the city. Not only museums, institutional spaces, galleries and workshops, but also hotels, restaurants, commercial spaces, schools and city parks become exhibition venues, transforming the city into a veritable open-air museum where art meets everyday life and becomes accessible to all.
The exhibition Around the Halls, a new addition to the IX Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Mosaics, aims to highlight the increasingly strong link between the city of Ravenna and its rich artistic heritage and tourist appeal.
The exhibition, curated by Chiara Gizzi and Daniele Torcellini, is presented in a completely new way in the programme of the 9th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic and, in the spirit of the title chosen for this edition – Shared Place, Luogo condiviso – reconfirms the idea that mosaic is a language capable of triggering relationships between tiles as well as between people, crossing the places of the city.
The project is supported and promoted by the Municipality of Ravenna – Department of Culture, Mosaics and Tourism, by MAR – Museum of Art of the City of Ravenna, and by all the exhibition venues involved in the project: Casa Masoli, Chez Papa, Gironda, Hotel Diana, Hotel NH Ravenna, Palazzo Bezzi, Palazzo Galletti Abbiosi and Santa Maria Foris.
Palazzo Galletti Abbiosi hosts the works of Korean artist Jae Hee Kim, a graduate of the State Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. The artist summarises her exhibition journey under the title Between Desire and Illusion, thus synthesising the profound meaning of her research: sometimes in life we lose ourselves between desires and unattainable dreams. We chase illusions, hoping for success and happiness, only to discover the trap of their emptiness and experience the abyss. We are attracted by the charm of what we cannot possess and, even if it is painful, we never stop chasing it.
